For your viewing pleasure……

Below are the x-rays taken for a dental implant replacing tooth number 18, the lower left second molar.

This radio-graph is taken after the pilot hole is drilled. I's not quite parallel to tooth #19.

This x-ray shows the first sizing drill. The angle to the tooth in front is much better.

The final implant is in place. Several millimeters from the nerve, parallel to the tooth in front.

Now the waiting period starts. The implant needs to “integrate” with the bone. This phase takes four to six months.

Implant Dentistry from Mexico

This is the second post about an implant case from Mexico.

Dental implants need to be parallel to the existing teeth, to each other, and perpendicular to the occlusal forces.

Take a cursory look at the current case. What do you see.  Many implants are in a good position, but a few bad apples………..

Implants replace front teeth

History: the patient was hit in the mouth when he was ten years old. Over the years the teeth were treated for many problems stemming from this trauma. Root canals were preformed, composite veneers were placed, the root canals were retreated. The teeth final failed after twelve years of service from external resorption. (This means the root surface was eaten away by the patient’s body.)

The teeth were removed and bone was placed in the sockets after a through removal of the tissue responsible for the resorption.  The area was allowed to heal for 5 months using an acrylic temporary. The temp looked wonderful, better than the original teeth.

Preparing For A Dental Implant

There are so many steps when preparing for dental implant placement. Not just choosing the correct type, size, and connection for the implant. But being ready for many different contingencies in-case something unexpected occurs during the surgery.  Below are a few photos taken at the last implant pre-op prep for implant placement.

Notice how many different choices there are. The box on the right is full of dental implant options: three sizes, four lengths, and about 20 different sulcus formers. This doesn’t include the different options for the permanent abutment.
